THERAPY
“being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives” Bessel Van Der Kolk
“recovery can only take place in the context of relationships; it cannot occur in isolation” Judith Herman
At my practice, a priority is help you feel safe again. Trauma, grief, separation, troubled relationships and just the general stress of modern living can leave you feeling vulnerable and disconnected from the world and everyone round you. One of the greatest benefits of therapy is having the experience of a safe connection embedded in the therapeutic relationship. Through this relationship you can explore your own thoughts and behaviours that are holding you back, understand the dynamics of your relationships and why they seem to be troubled or simply look for avenues for growth and development so that you can become the best version of yourself. Therapy is different for everyone, and therefore my approach is eclectic and suited to the individual, depending on different goals, purpose and specific issues.

TRAUMA
“After a traumatic experience, the human system of self-preservation seems to go into permanent alert, as if the danger might return at any time. “
I have extensive experience as a trauma therapist. Whether vicarious or direct, we have all known trauma and many may still be walking through life weighed down by trauma that we think we have forgotten.
Trauma lives on in our bodies, sometimes for months or even years after the event. Getting help soon after a traumatic experience is perhaps your best chance at reclaiming your life back as quickly as possible.
Assessment
Psychometric assessments are geared to augment what we may already be hypothesizing about our clients.
My assessment areas include:
- ADHD
- Personality disorders
- Clinical syndromes
- IQ screening
Family therapy
“When we begin to know ourselves in an open and self-supportive way, we take the first step to encourage our children to know themselves” Berne Siegle
“The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind” Bessel Van Der Kolk
Family problems can pervade all areas of life and have serious effects on peace of mind and mental well-ness. If not dealt with, these problems can cross generations. It is possible for us to inherit our parents issues, no matter how hard we try to avoid them. The pattern of abuse in one generation can find itself manifesting in the next generation. Sometimes even with awareness, these problems can cross over. These issues need to be consciously and actively addressed, and new patterns of behaving and relating have to be implemented with purpose and effort so that the cycle of maladaptive behavior can end.
Sibling rivalry, parent child conflict, parenting skills and other dynamics of family life that the family system is overwhelmed with an be addressed in therapy.
Children and Adolescents
Children have their language that we need to honor and understand them in. They communicate through play, and this is the medium that needs to be used to help them heal.
This practice supports play therapy with our younger children.
Adolescents too have their own way of communicating. Fresh from recent cognitive advancement, they are now trying to figure out themselves, who they are, and their place in the world. This is hard enough. But add out of the ordinary situations to that and they may be overwhelmed, and may require support
Couples Therapy
Sometimes couples get to an impasse; a point where they can’t see a future in their relationship. Couples therapy can help navigate a way out.
BWRT
“Brain training therapies aim to create fast change, not by examining or endlessly going over your past r you issues, but by using neuroscience to change the way you respond to them in the first place”
BWRT stands for Brain Working Recursive therapy. Conceived by Terrence Watts, a therapist with over 30 years experience, BWRT is an exciting new, groundbreaking therapy that couples psychological processes with the latest knowledge in neuroscience. Although still a form of talk therapy, it is radically different from what we would normally imagine as therapy. It is a fast and effective way of treating a wide range of psychological disorders. Considered a quick fix, BWRT has had effectiveness from as little as 2 or 3 session. Regardless, it has proven t have “very deep, permanent changes in people” with a significantly lower relapse rate.
BWRT can only be administered by trained and registered practitioners.
